Atlanta Blue Jays Baseball Testimonials - Neiko Johnson

The Atlanta Blue Jays program was a very beneficial and important part of my life. Plenty of great memories and of course great teammates who will be lifelong friends. Probably the best coaches I've ever played for and I can definitely say that it was always a great time. In baseball you have to have fun and enjoy yourself because if you don't then it'll be a long journey playing this game. Playing for the Atlanta Blue Jays help me learn to become a man and learn to grow up quickly. The first summer playing for the Blue Jays I had to deal with being away from home and dealing with constructive criticism. Before playing in this program I never was away from home for long periods of time and that definitely helped me grow and get ready for college. I always say till this day that if I didn't play for this program before I went to college then I wouldn't have been ready for the college experience because it's a big change when you go from high school to college. AD and the Blue Jays coaches were great and always worked us hard to make sure we became the players we were capable of. Having coaches who push you and work you very hard shows that they care and want you to have a bright future. The Blue Jays played an important role in my decision of attending the University of Kentucky which was another great experience. My entire baseball career and life goes back and connects to the Atlanta Blue Jays in some form or fashion. If it wasn't for this program who knows where I would have ended up. I would have still played college ball but maybe not for a very good D1 program in the SEC. After being injured my senior year in college I thought my baseball days were numbered. With the help of the Atlanta Blue Jays program and AD I was given another blessing and chance to play professional baseball. I didn't get drafted out of college but I still kept in contact with the program which is something I will do forever. I was able to attend some workouts for pro teams and I was currently in Florida working out for the Twins the day after the MLB draft then I got a phone call from AD saying I need to be in Roswell the next morning at 10 am. I didn't know how it would be possible because I was on the field for the Twins that evening but then decided to leave right after the workout and head back home. I arrived at the airport and all the flights were booked up so I just assumed I had no chance of making the workout. I called AD back and told him I didn't know if I could make it and he told me "make sure you are there, I"M GOING TO GET YOU SIGNED WITH A TEAM". So with the blessing of God I was able to get a flight home late that night then I woke up early the next morning and headed to the workout. I worked out for a couple teams including the Houston Astros which was the team I eventually signed with. I got a phone call 3 hours after the workout from the Astros saying they wanted to sign me. All I could do was smile and be thankful for the opportunity. I said to myself "AD DID IT AGAIN AS ALWAYS!" He always helped me in life and sports. If I ever need someone to talk to I can call him whenever and he always was there to help me through tough times. Baseball can be frustrating especially when you don't know if you'll play again but with the grace of God and the help of this program I was able to continue my baseball career. I've attended a great univeristy, got my degree, played professional baseball with the Houston Astros, and now with the help of this program again I'm currently playing with an independent professional baseball league. There are countless amount of times this program has helped me and I'm very thankful for everything. I will always keep in contact with the players and coaches of this program and always give back to the program. Hopefully I will eventually coach and help the younger generation because I want them to be better than me and I always love to help them become the best possible. There isn't much more I can ask from one program or any one person. I'm blessed and God has done tremendous things for me. BLUE JAYS FOR LIFE!!!
