Atlanta Blue Jays Baseball Testimonials - Michael Cesi

I joined the Atlanta Blue Jays knowing that it was "crunch time" to make it to the Division I level, a dream which seemed to be slipping away. As I entered my first season, I was hopeful that the long practices, packed tournament schedule, and competitive atmosphere would not only expose me to college scouts, but prove I deserved such exposure. Every practice was demanding, both physically and mentally. I can't recall how many times my teammate Chris Mylenbusch and I ran around North Atlanta High School's track, or how many bases loaded, 3-2 count situations I was unfairly placed in; but with each practice I promised myself it'd all be worth it. In a way the program taught me to trust, to put faith in those who have gone before me and not be afraid to step outside my comfort zone. Did I agree with everything the coaches said? Of course not. But I realized, and appreciated, that their advice was to improve my on field performance and sign a scholarship with a Division I team. The program taught me that on field improvement is best achieved through competition, and staging game-like pressure situations in practice improved my game performance, where college scouts expect to see results. When I was fortunate enough to be legitimately scouted by the U.S. Air Force Academy during a tournament in Florida (Perfect Game I believe...), I was surprised to hear they only had time to see me throw to one hitter. One hitter? That's it? That experience re-defined the "one shot, one opportunity" mantra we hear so much, and perhaps luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Reflecting on all the ups and downs of my years with the Atlanta Blue Jays, I'm grateful for the opportunity to play baseball with some amazing guys and repeatedly showcase my skills to continue to the next level.
